Doyle Hockey Development Staff member Leslie Oles named CIS Athlete of the Week
Martlet hockey player and Doyle Hockey Development staff member Leslie Oles was named Canadian Interuniversity Sport female athlete of the week today. Oles, a second-year physical education student from Beaconsfield, Que., scored five goals and assisted on two others as the top-ranked and reigning CIS champion Martlets swept a pair of road games over Montreal and Ottawa. The 5-foot-3 forward celebrated her 21st birthday with a hat-trick and one helper in a 10-1 victory against the Carabins last Friday, and then added two more goals – including the game-winner - and set up another in Sunday’s 5-1 win over the Gee-Gees. The seven-point performance moved Oles into first place in the RSEQ scoring race with a 10-4-14 record in nine games.
Leslie is an extremely dynamic and powerful forward with the Martlets and has been very consistent all season. She plays at an intensity that is extremely high each game and has learned to control her emotions on the ice. Oles was very honoured to be recognized for her past weekend’s performance. “Our team is playing very well lately and our hard practice habits are now transferring to game situations. I am blessed with great linemates with Heydra and Daoust. They both see the ice very well and we seemed to click over the weekend. It is a lot of fun to play with them” explained Oles. “Being awarded the CIS athlete of the week is an honour that i share with my teammates”.
Prior to McGil, Oles played for the Montreal Stars and the John Abbott Lady Islanders. She was a member of Team Quebec and represented Canada at the first ever U18 World Championship held in January 2008.
